Via Battisti

November 5, 2024 Eat Drink Magazine

In a postcard-perfect location just across the road from picturesque Mount Martha Beach, Via Battisti is a cafe that delivers big with its Mediterranean-inspired hospitality and charm. Owner Dan Force has cultivated a warm, inviting atmosphere, blending the casual comfort of a local coffee spot with an intimate European wine bar, featuring dark painted walls, warm timber accents and soft lighting.

At the heart of Via Battisti's offerings are its unrivalled paninis. As the Peninsula’s original panini bar, it has perfected the art, offering an enticing selection of gourmet combinations. For summer, it’s introducing the Instagram-worthy Panini Picnic Pack: two shareable paninis and Capi sodas of your choice, packaged for a hassle-free meal as you watch the waves from your beach towel.

Coffee aficionados will appreciate the Square One beans. Beyond delivering exceptional flavour, each cup supports the Common Ground Project, with 10 per cent of profits going to a Victorian regenerative agriculture farm. Or try the Hug in a Cup, Dan’s secret recipe featuring matcha and chai that's quickly become a favourite.

The menu, using seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients, includes housemade classics like spanakopita and the popular breakfast burrito, and daily sandwich specials such as pulled pork with homemade barbecue hickory sauce. Vegan treats, artisan gluten-free bread as well as pastries from Chocolat round out the diverse offerings.

Fully licensed from 11am, Via Battisti offers drinks including espresso martinis and negronis, embodying the café's Italian vibe.

Featuring local art and sourcing produce from neighbouring businesses, Via Battisti is a Mount Martha institution that pulses with warmth and familiarity year-round. Dan and her team – the Battisti Familia – greet regulars by name and welcome newcomers like old friends, making every visitor part of their coffee-loving foodie clan.
